As a part of our class this week, w took a trip to the Michigan
History Museum in Lansing. We were originally planning to go there on Monday,
but we found out it was closed that day-so the visit
was moved to Tuesday. It was my first time visiting the museum, and I was
honestly surprised how big and detailed it was. The building has three floors,
and each one takes you through a different time period in Michigan’s history. The
higher you go, the more recent the exhibits become, which make you feel like
walking through time.

What I was the
most excited was the third floor, which focus on modern life in Michigan. I
especially enjoyed learning about how Michigan played a big role in industry
during and after World WarⅡ. There were machines and
equipment that showed the state’s contribution to the war effort, but what
really caught my eye were the everyday items like dishes, furniture, and even
kitchen setups. It gave me a glimpse into how ordinary Michiganders lived back
then, which made the history feel more personal and real. Besides that, there
were also fascinating exhibits on Native American life, early mining
communities, and the tough lives of lumberjacks. There was so much to take in,
and every corner of the museum had something new to offer.
Visiting the Michigan History Museum made me realize how important it is to learn about theplace you live in, especially while studying abroad. As someone currentlyliving in Michigan, understanding its past helps me feel more connected to thepeople and culture around me. I left the museum not just with new knowledge, but with a deeper appreciation for this unique state.
